How TrueGrade grading works

Every device runs a 25-point inspection before listing — screen, battery, cameras, buttons, speakers, microphones, charging port, biometrics, and the cellular and Wi-Fi radios. Wi-Fi or cellular?

Most tablets are Wi-Fi only, which is all you need if it stays on your home network. Cellular models take a SIM or eSIM and need a data plan; if you are buying one, check the IMEI with your carrier first — see how to check an IMEI. The connectivity type is listed on every product page.

What to check when buying a used tablet

  • Screen condition — the largest and most expensive part. Our grade covers it explicitly.
  • Battery — tablets have big batteries that degrade slowly, but it is still worth knowing. Part of our inspection.
  • Software support — iPads generally receive updates longer than Android tablets.
  • Activation lock — every Apple device here is checked before listing.

Frequently asked questions

Are refurbished tablets a good idea?
They are one of the better refurbished buys. Tablets are handled more gently than phones and their hardware stays adequate for reading, video and browsing for years, so the discount against new is large relative to the compromise.
Do I need a cellular tablet?
Only if you want to use it away from Wi-Fi. Cellular models need a SIM or eSIM and a data plan. For home use a Wi-Fi model is cheaper and does the same job.
Will a used iPad still get updates?
iPads typically receive iPadOS updates for five or more years from release, usually longer than Android tablets. The product page lists the model and generation so you can check.
What do your condition grades mean?
Grade A (Excellent) has minimal to no visible wear, Grade B (Great) light signs of use, Grade C (Fair) visible wear at the best price, and Grade C- (Rough) heavier cosmetic wear. All four are fully functional; the grade describes cosmetic condition only.
What is your return policy?
Every device has a 90-day return window from the date of delivery, about three times what most used-phone sellers offer.
